History

In 1994, special projects focused on support of children and teenagers in situation of social risk were scarce. The right to a good basic education was at stake, and this single fact compromised the future of Carapicuiba. Even after the implementation of the ECA (acronym in Portuguese of "Children and Teenager Bylaw") the size of the problem was immense.

Aware of the paramount need to protect the young generations of this community, a group of experts gathered in 1994 at the "First Tutelage Council" of Carapicuíba. What they had in mind was to develop a direct and positive action together with these youth. In association with the "Grupo de Senhoras Estrela Azul" (local kindergarten), a new entity devoted to community services, social integration and the promotion of social leadership was born in June 2000: Conexão.

We sought a legal status according to our mission. Today, Conexão is an OSCIP (Brazilian acronym for "Civil Society Organization of Public Interest).

We get involved in the process of assessing, educating, encouraging and supporting our public. Our programmes are focused on community leadership and social entrepreneurship. This would all eventually lead to an increase of individual income, enhancing the community as a whole.

CONEXÃO works tête-à-tête with its governmental partners, private business and civil society, both in the creation and monitoring of social products.
