EMPLOYMENT OF HANDICAPPED PEOPLE
Most of handicapped people in Brazil (either physically –e.g. blinds or deaf- or psychically) have no access to the labor market. Some previous studies show that out of circa six million employable people with some kind of handicap, only 170,000 are legally employed, i.e. they benefit from Social Security and business profits. Nearly a million of these are employed in the informal market. The reason why most of these people have no access to the work market is not hard to find: most of them do not possess any professional title or degree providing some kind of qualification, which renders their pursuit for a job even harder.
The programme “Employment of Handicapped People”, implemented by CONEXÃO, aims at training businesses so that they can tackle this issue with assertiveness.
Regarding the amount of private companies having successfully implemented and benefited from this programme, more and more entrepreneurs are interested in developing similar projects. For this reason, we offer technical support, e.g. identifying bureaus in need of a wheel-chair ramp or Braille plaques, sensitization of workers so that new employees are fully integrated…
