Eu aprendo, eu ensino -- I learn & I teach
The project’s goal is to tighten the links between school and community through volunteer work of students belonging to the public network of education of Carapicuiba. The actions are aligned with the eight MDGs, with a special focus on preventing malnutrition (First Goal). What is it and who is is for
The main goal is to spread the eight MDGs through the communities (especially the First –Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger) through ten schools of Carapicuíba. Volunteer work and a good organization of the youth help transform the reality of the municipality and achieve in a creative and informative way the targets included in the MDGs.
Why
Malnutrition is one of the worst side-effects of poverty, and represents a challenge for public health throughout the world. It is also the most common cause of death among children under five years old. Therefore, strengthening the role that MDGs plays in society is a high priority for Brazil, so that it can tackle a problem that affects a vast majority of the population.
Furthermore, this project instructs the youth in both oral and written communication, bolsters their responsible-acting when it comes to overcome new tasks, promotes teamwork and creativity and also provides them with a great opportunity to write and implement a project by themselves.
How
The project involves many different actors from the community, which stands for innovation and integration. Each school engages three to seven students into the making of a social project focused on malnutrition; the whole process will be supervised by a school monitor and a technician from Conexão.
By spreading their knowledge –acquired both during the training at Conexão and throughout the research- participants in this project become “multiplying agents”,
The project is now on its third edition. The project was first tested in 2006, and since them we have counted on the support of UNDP/UNV, and since 2007 of VISA VALE and CBSS (Brazilian Company for Solutions and Services).
Where
CONEXÃO and a network of local schools. Due to its effectiveness, we believe that the program could also be implemented in other municipalities.
